When it comes about the expedition over  7,000 m high, Mt. Himlung allows you to stand at an elevation of 7,126 m /23,380 ft offering panorama and majestic views of high massif Himalaya of western Nepal from its summit.

Mt. Himlung, located northeast of Annapurna region, this region was opened in 1992 by Nepal Government, before it was a restricted region. Despite of its location in the remote corner of Nepal near Tibet border, this trip offers stunning scenery with traditional villages leading to the popular Annapurna circuit route and then off the main trail on the less trekked area to Nar-Phu region. This region is untouched by the modernity and very few trekkers have explored this region, a great opportunity to explore the traditional Tibetan cultures and the lifestyle of mountain people of remote Nepal. This trip begins from lower Marshyangdi river valley, with views of Gompas and unique cultural settlements. Trekking through evergreen forests and several villages at the higher altitude finally takes to the Phu valley and the base camp for Himlung climb at 4,900 m / 16,076 ft; and start preparation for the expedition. After Base Camp setting three more camps above to reach the summit, Advance Base Camp at 5,450 m /17,880 ft, Camp 1 at 6,000 m /19,685 ft) and Camp II at 6,350 m /(20,833 ft.

On arrival in Kathmandu, you are warmly greeted by our Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions staff at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). SME representatives will assist then transfer to respective hotels.

In Kathmandu sightseeing program includes visit of world heritage sites the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the world biggest Stuppa; Boudhhanath, known as little Tibet, Swoyambhunath Stupa (monkey temple) located on a hill side one of the oldest religious spot of more than 2,500 years old and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square with unique architectural temple, and the virgin Kumari known as Living Goddess in Basantapur atf central Kathmandu. Kathmandu is not only naturally beautiful but it also holds the beauty of incredible Newar people culture with ancient architectures.

On this day an opportunity for shopping essential equipments, gears, harness, crampons, ice axe with leash, webbing, cord, trekking poles, sleeping bag, headwear, footwear and other stuffs. In the meantime Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions staff will obtain necessary permits and papers for the expeditions. There will be a special meeting in the evening regarding pre-expeditions discussion with all our fellow expedition staffs.

After a good breakfast begin this trip with a drive to Jagat via the town of Beshisahar enjoying the great views of Himalayans above top of green hills, drive follows the Prithvi Highway till it reach at Dumre from where here ride towards north to reach Beshisahar. Beshisahar is just 178km / 111mile headquarter of Lamjung area located far west from Kathmandu valley, journey continues Leaving Beshisahar following the dirt road that drops to a stream to Bhalam Khola and to Khudi, Bhulbhule and Ngadi.  Crosse the streams driving through rice terraces and passing several villages of Syange The ride climbs leaving the Marsyandi River and reaches to a small settlement of Jagat for overnight stop.

The tail descends to the Marsyandi River to the east bank and continues through a lush forest. The trail offers the mesmerizing view of backdrop of towering Annapurna mountain ranges. After crossing a suspension bridge, climb steeply towards the slippery and physically challenging path to Sattale. The trail passes several villages such as Tal Besi, Tal Karte and reaches Dharapani for overnight stop.

The trail goes along the mule track through dense forest of fir, pine, oak and maple. This region is also rich in its age old culture. The great view of Manaslu 8163m/26781ft with 3 hotels is in Timang. From Timang we walk for half an hour to reach Koto where we stop for the night.

Leaving Kotto continue trek to Dharmashala through complete new experience of alpine vegetation along the trail, a few hours walk brings you at Dharmashala for the overnight camp.

After breakfast trek to Kyang the trail ascends through lush forests on route encountering pristine forests, small rivers and then finally reach at Kyang after five hours of good walk.

The trail descends steeply to the river and then walking along the river bank and crossing bridge over the stream, the path further climbs to reach at Phu valley by walking through the gorge.

Today a short hike to reach the base camp, the trail offers spectacular mountain scenery of high Himalaya.  A few hours of walk brings to Himlung Base Camp for the overnight and to make further plans regarding this adventurous expedition.

This day for acclimatization and preparation for the climb, our Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions guide and leader will teach you some climbing techniques and skills, sharing all his knowledge, if you have any queries and confusion then, please do not hesitate to ask the guide. In case of any problem, let our team knows so that they can take necessary steps further, making final preparation for the climb on this day at base camp.

Have to stay at base camp till the weather improves as the weather around high Himalaya is unpredictable, one has to be mentally strong and then start ascending to Advance Base Camp 5,450 m /17,880 ft with rest days and preparation, this peak technically is quite challenging than other mountains. Camp 1 is situated at the elevation of 6,000 m  /19,685 ft and Camp II at 6,350 m  /20,833 ft on the southeast ridge and from here need to put oxygen mask to reach the summit, crossing two camps after spending couples of night depending on weather condition to conquer the Himlung summit, on reaching at the top of the peak spending some moments at the summit enjoying the panoramic view of high Himalaya range and then makce gentle descend. Descending is technically more difficult than ascending to the summit, however it not as much difficult like other major expeditions mountains but you might face significant challenges like low level of temperature and low atmospheric pressure because of high altitude. That’s why need to have good preparation and perfect weather condition for the climb. Continue descend to the Base Camp after Advance Camp.

Himalaya region has thousands of treks and summit attempts every year. As a result, piles of unwanted trash and rubbish exist, our effort to reduce the pollution around as we do have responsibility towards Mother Nature. So clean up the base camp which will be a help reducing the impacts of global warming, then pack up necessary stuff and prepare for return journey.

From today onwards retrace the journey by the same way, with a short descend to reach the Phu valley. The trail offers the spectacular mountain scenery of high Himalaya.  A few hours of walk brings to Phu valley for overnight stop.

The trail first gently descends and leads through gorge, after crossing the bridge over the stream and walk along the river bank. A few hours of walk finally brings us to the small settlement of Dharmashala for the overnight stop.

Leaving Dharmasala continue trek to Koto with a complete new experience  after being in the high mountains for many days the change in lush vegetation truly makes you as the cold and high altitude is over, a few hours walk brings to Koto for overnight stop.

Today move for Dharapani following the trail which passes through village Timang which is a vantage point for great view of Mt. Manaslu  8,163 m /26,781ft and has best lodges and hotels. This region is also rich in its age old culture, from Timang, walk for few hours along the mule track through dense forest of fir, pine, oak and maple to reach Dharapani for overnight stop.

Morning walk follows the trail through several villages Tal Besi and Tal Karte and reach Sattale. The trail descends and crosses the suspension bridge with magnificent views of towering Annapurna mountain ranges towards west, then walking through lush green forest along the river bank of Marshyangdi River with a gentle descend to reach Jagat village for the last overnight stop in the high hills of Himalaya before the drive back to Kathmandu next day.

After a last breakfast of this great rip board on the vehicle for the drive to Kathmandu following the narrow dirt road and Marsyangdi River downstream after few hours drive passing villages and towns of Syange, Bulbule, Khude and Beshishar a large town and headquarter of Lamjung district, from here another hour reaches to Dumre joining the Pokhara-Kathmandu highway 04 hrs of good interesting drive reaches to Kathmandu concluding this memorable adventure with Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions on reaching Kathmandu check into the hotel.
