Mt. Everest lies on the border of Nepal and Tibet, with the entire northern side resting on the vast Tibetan Plateau. The North Ridge route is more accessible than the South because climbers avoid the dangerous Khumbu Icefall. The approach is simpler and more direct, with a road leading all the way to Base Camp (5,200m) and yaks able to reach Advanced Base Camp (6,500m). This makes the North Col route more affordable and increasingly popular.
The north side was first explored by the British expeditions of 1920–1924, led by George Mallory and Andrew “Sandy” Irvine. Mallory’s iconic quote, “Because it’s there,” remains the most famous phrase in mountaineering history. In 1953, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary made the first successful ascent from the southern ridge, but today many climbers also summit via the North Col.
The climb begins at Everest Base Camp (5,200m), then progresses to Advanced Base Camp and higher camps at 7,000m, 7,500m, and 8,300m before the final push to the 8,848m (29,029 ft) summit. While reaching 8,000m is demanding, the last 848m to the top are the most challenging.
Sherpa Mountaineering Pvt. Ltd. operates expeditions in both pre- and post-monsoon seasons, with late May offering the best summit window. Proper acclimatization, planning, and support are essential for success.

Everest where climbers mostly face significant challenges to survive like low level of temperature and low atmospheric pressure. That’s why requires a good preparation and perfect weather condition for the climb. Continue descend to the base camp via Camp III, Camp II and finally celebrate the victory.

Common questions about the Mt. Everest North Expedition
The North Ridge is technically straightforward, but it is colder and windier. Climbers avoid the Khumbu Icefall, making the route less risky, but the summit day is longer and more exposed.
Yes. Climbers must have experience above 6,500m and be skilled in using crampons, ice axe, fixed ropes, and moving safely at high altitude.
A typical expedition lasts 45–55 days, including acclimatization at Base Camp and Advanced Base Camp, and waiting for the best summit window.
A Tibet Mountaineering Permit and Chinese visa are required. Sherpa Mountaineering will arrange all paperwork and logistics for the team.
Yes. One of the major advantages of the north side is that you can drive all the way to Base Camp (5,200m) and use yaks to reach Advanced Base Camp (6,500m), reducing carrying loads and overall cost.
