Unlike other 7000’er mountains, Mt. Putha Himchuli provides tremendous adventures in mountain climbing located in the western flank of Himalaya range of Nepal and to the North West of world seventh highest Mt.Dhualgiri 8,167 m.
Mt. Putha, also known as Dhaulagiri VII at an elevation of 7,246 m (23,773 ft) locating itself in the remote corner of Dhaulagiri Range. Dhaulagiri region provides complete mesmerizing panoramic of mountain range views, diverse flora and fauna and rich local cultures. Mt. Putha offers tremendous scenery of highest peaks of Mt. Dhaulagiri II, III, IV, V, VI, Churen Himal, Himal Gurja and many other massif Himalayan mountain range. Mt. Putha is in the far hidden corners of Dhaulagiri Himal that separates Dolpo area to the north of Dhaulagiri.
In 1954, the summit of Mt. Putha was first conquered by James Roberts and Nepali Ang Nima Sherpa. Since then, the peak has become an ideal for climbers seeking for real adventurous peak climbing of above 7000m in the Himalaya region of Nepal. At present, this mountain is mostly climbed mainly from the north and northeast ridge because of less technical difficulties and this mountain comes in the list of accessible straight forward climbing within 7,000 ranges of Mountains.
This excellent trek commences right from Nepalgunj city which is just 573 km south-west from Kathmandu, with a flight of 55 minutes to reach at Nepalgunj and continue a short flight to Juphal in Dolpo area and start trekking up to Putha Hiuchuli Base Camp situated at 4,960 m / 16,273 ft after crossing Tarakot and German Base Camp, then using the North East ridge to climb the summit because it is accessible and the most climbed route. After a successful attempt to the summit, retrace the journey back via same path to reach Juphal for the flight back to Nepalgunj then to Kathmandu. This expedition provides you great opportunity to be in the midst of local ancient culture, tradition and lifestyle, seldom frequented or explored by westerners or by few trekkers.

On arrival in Kathmandu, you are warmly greeted by our Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions staff at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). SME representatives will assist then transfer to respective hotels.
In Kathmandu sightseeing program includes visit of world heritage sites the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the world biggest Stuppa; Boudhhanath, known as little Tibet, Swoyambhunath Stupa (monkey temple) located on a hill side one of the oldest religious spot of more than 2,500 years old and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square with unique architectural temple, and the virgin Kumari known as Living Goddess in Basantapur atf central Kathmandu. Kathmandu is not only naturally beautiful but it also holds the beauty of incredible Newar people culture with ancient architectures.
On this day an opportunity for shopping essential equipments, gears, harness, crampons, ice axe with leash, webbing, cord, trekking poles, sleeping bag, headwear, footwear and other stuffs. In the meantime Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions staff will obtain necessary permits and papers for the expeditions. There will be a special meeting in the evening regarding pre-expeditions discussion with all expedition staffs.
Today, a super scenic flight of 55 minutes to reach Nepalgunj, headquarter of Banke District, situated on the Far South West Terai of Nepal in the flat plains near the southern border of India. The temperature in this city is quite hot in comparison to other mid hills with time to explore the city which is quite Indian influenced city and the people.
Morning with another super scenic flight of nearly 35 minutes to Juphal over the Himalayan foothills with views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks towards north. From here start the trek to Dunai descending downhill, following the river bank of Thuli Bheri heading eastward, then walking through terraced fields and then in the narrow gorge to reach Dunai village for the overnight stop.
Leaving Dunai, head for Tarakot, follow the river bank of Thuli Bheri then cross a small suspension bridge over Barbung upstream and walk through tremendous gorge with pine trees, walk for few more hours on a path along the riverbank through colorful terraced fields to reach Tarakot for overnight stop.
After breakfast, start trekking to Mushi khola, at first walking downhill to follow the river. The trail then ascends through terraced fields and reaches the small settlement of Mushi Kola for overnight stop.
Today’s walk still follows the river through narrow gorge. one can notice the change in vegetation and climate as the walking leads on higher altitude, after a few hours of walk, reaching the small settlements of Kakot with Yaks crossing Barbung River in Kakot.
Kakot is an ideal place for acclimatization, spending an extra day in Kakot village helps to acclimatize and avoid the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Kakot is also a mesmerizing village explore its vicinity and make further plans for the expeditions.
After breakfast, start trekking to German Base Camp through narrow gorge enjoying the stunning mountains views and then reaching the camping area at German base camp, rest of the afternoon explore the surroundings area.
Start the day waking up with the stunning sunrise of early morning which is completely mesmerizing with enough time to capture this precious sunrise, morning walk leads towards Putha Himchuli base camp at 4,960 m with steep ascends, with marvelous view of massif high mountains. After few hours of trek finally arriving at a flat camping area of Mt. Putha Base Camp, with time to explore the surroundings.
Rest for acclimatization and preparation day our guide and leader will teach you some climbing techniques and skills, sharing all his knowledge if you have any queries and confusion ask your guide. In case of any problem, let our team know so that we can make necessary steps with final preparation for the climb on this day.
Sometime waiting for the right moment along with the perfect weather have to stay at base camp or at Advance base camp till weather improves as the weather around high Himalaya is unpredictable, one has to be mentally strong and then start ascending to Camp I at an altitude of 5,300 m /17,388 ft. then further climb up to Camp II situated at 5,900 m /19,357 ft. After spending couple of nights in Camp I and Camp II move for Camp III at 6,300 m /20,670 ft. From here need to put oxygen mask to reach the summit top, crossing three camps after spending some nights depending on weather condition to reach the summit. After a successful climb to the top with some moments to marvel the panoramic view of high surrounding Himalayan mountain range and make gentle descend. Descending is technically more difficult than ascending, might face significant challenges like low level of temperature and low atmospheric pressure because of high altitude. That’s why expeditions need good preparation and perfect weather condition for the climb, continue descend to base camp after a grand moment on the top of Mt. Himalaya region has thousands of treks and summit attempts every year, as a result, piles of unwanted trash and garbage exists, our effort will be to reduce the pollution around as we do have some responsibility towards Mother Nature.
So clean up the base camp which will be a great support and help in reducing the impacts of global warming, then pack up necessary gear and stuff for the return journey to Kathmandu.
Leaving base camp retrace via same path, following the icy trail at first and continue walk losing altitude. Walk downhill through small and narrow gorge and follow the stream that brings to the small settlement of Kakot for overnight stop.
After breakfast, start trek to Mushi khola, walk through stunning terraced fields and follow the Barbung River, then with gentle ascend to reach the small settlement of Mushi Khola for overnight stop.
Today still follow the river and walk through narrow gorge, notice the change in vegetation and climate as the walk loose altitude, after a few hours of trekking through colorful terraced fields reaching a small settlement of Tarakot from here continue journey back to Juphal via Dunai for the last overnight camp in Dolpo.
An early flight of nearly 35 minutes will reach at Nepalgunj with a brief stop here then board again in bigger plane for the super sweeping scenic flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, our guide will assist you to transfer in respective hotels.
The last day of this great adventure trip with Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions and in Nepal today catch the last minute souvenir shopping with last night dinner with the group member and staffs.
