15 Days • Itinerary Overview
On arrival in Kathmandu, you are warmly greeted by our Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions staff at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). SME representatives will assist then transfer to respective hotels.
In Kathmandu sightseeing program includes visit of world heritage sites the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the world biggest Stuppa Boudhhanath, known as little Tibet, Swoyambhunath Stupa (monkey temple) located on a hill side one of the oldest religious spot of more than 2,500 years old and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square with unique architectural temple, and the virgin Kumari known as Living Goddess in Basantapur at central Kathmandu. Kathmandu is not only naturally beautiful but it also holds the beauty of incredible Newar people culture with ancient architectures.
Morning drive to Syabrubesi, journey takes on the winding ups and downhill road, through many rural town and farm villages the bigger town on route Trisuli Bazaar, in the sub-tropical climatic zone the road from here climbs uphill to a cooler region leaving the rice paddy behind to maize and millet terraced fields as the weather changes with the culture and the people as well, on arrival at the entrance of Dhunche 1,965m, major town of the Langtang area and Rasuwa district. There’s a Langtang National Park headquarter. From here, journey continues further downhill for 02 hours to Syabrubesi village for the overnight stop.
The route from Syabrubesi with uphill climb for a while but the rest of the walk is gradual on the winding trail through the terraced farm fields and villages, as the trail descends and joins the path coming from Thulo Syabru at the Riverside Lodge near the place of Bamboo, The walk from here leads to a cool forest inside the gorge following the torrent glacial Trisuli River upstream, the path from here leads to gentle up hill in the cool shade of rhododendron and oaks forest after few hours walk, arriving at Lama-Hotel, where there is facilities for camping and staying in one of these local teahouses serving as lodges for the trekkers.
From this place another two to three hours reaches at Ghoretabla in the middle of forest of pines, hemlocks and rhododendron from here onwards you can feel the altitude also. Ghoretabla in Nepali means the “Horse-Stable” Trek continues for few hours on the trail to Langtang village and to its beautiful valley, the walk leads through the alpine forest for an hour, on reaching a small stream and then leaving the tree line behind.
From here the trail follows uphill for an hour, then the walks get better on the gradual winding path with few ups and down till Langtang Village is reached for the overnight stop with time visiting the villages with a glimpse of Langtang Himal peeping in the north on top of the great rock wall.
From this wonderful village, morning walk leads through the gradual path for a short while, then the path winds uphill for few hours through the prickly Burberry and high alpine shrubs, and encountering “mani-prayer wall” where walking on the clockwise direction is the positive way of respecting the local culture and religion, as our walk leads to farther east the valley opens up and then walking on the grassy meadow with views of numerous snow capped peaks in the distance. The walk is more pleasant and can be vigorous due to altitude gain as we come to our destination at Kyangin Gompa. Kyangin Gompa, a scenic charming spot, with peaks looming from all direction, the closest peak that you can see is the Langtang Lirung of over 7,000m and its icefall just at leisurely distance from the campsite, Kyangin Gompa, a small monastery located on the top of the ridge formed by glacial moraine of rocks and boulders, within Kyangin Gompa area there are 10-15 lodges and a cheese factory.
After a good breakfast have an excursion to Tsergo Ri positioned at 5,033m. The climb to Tsergo is quite challenging which demands good physical fitness, the breathtaking view of highest mountains of central Himalaya. After spending some moments at Tsergo Ri, return to Kyanjin Gompa via same path for overnight stop.
Leaving Kyanjin Gompa to start challenging trek of this adventurous trip by crossing the Langtang River first and then ascend uphill through the rhododendron forests, then climb with a steep ascends on the icy path to reach the flat area of Ganja La Phedi for the overnight camp.
Cross Ganja La pass 5,122 m / 16,800 ft and descend to Keldang
4,250 m / 13,940 ft 06 hrs.Today early morning cross the Ganja La pass which is quite challenging traverse as this Pass is covered by snow throughout the year. This region is considered as adventurous and least visited place of Langtang Region, after the climb and long ascent on the icy path passing several small lakes to reach the top of the Pass with incredible views of surrounding high enclosed mountains, from here a long steep descent to reach the Keldang Kharka for the overnight stop.
After breakfast start trekking to Dukpu descending down following a main ridge line, a moderate walking distance today with few ups and downs to reach the small settlement of Dukpu for the overnight stop.
Leaving Dukpu, move for Tarke Gyang with a gentle descend at first and then climb the small pass at an elevation of 4,100 m /13,451 ft a vantage point for spectacular mountain views of Ganesh, Langtang and Jugal Himal range including Mt.Everest in good clear weather towards far east horizon, from here follow the trail with descends through pine, rhododendron forest to reach a small cattle herder’s village of Tarkeghyang for overnight stop with ample time to visit one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries of this area,
Today, walk through flat land with beautiful forests enjoying the view of beautiful village of Helembu region, continue walk passing many chortens and meadows to reach a small village of Gangyul, following the trail with magnificent views of green hills and natural vegetation and leading to Shermathang, another pretty Hyolmo village with a visit of old monasteries, overnight at Sermathang.
The last day of this wonderful trip around Healmbu, after breakfast, walk downhill, through flat land till it reaches a newly built Stupa and statue of Guru Rinpoche
( Guru Padmasamvaba) then gently descend and walk through pine forest to the village of Kakani. The trail descends till it reaches Dubachaur and descending further from Dubachaur to reach a suspension bridge over Melamchi Khola, on arriving at Melamchi Pool take a bus ride of nearly 4-5 hours to reach Kathmandu, after a wonderful time at the high hills of central Himalaya.
The last day of this great adventure trip with Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions and in Nepal today catch the last minute souvenir shopping with last night dinner with the group member and staffs.
